Coming Home...

June 8th, 2003 - Suja and I brought these two beautiful black 8-week old kittens home .

Anil had suggested great names for the twins at a pool party a week ago…One kitten was smaller than the other, so he became Klick, and the other became Klack.

The smallest size collar the shop had was way too big for his scrawny neck, and his ears were twice the size of his face. He looked really bewildered when he got out of the cat box, “Who are these people? And what are they going to do to me?” Look at his little claws sticking out of his paws. Retractable, anyone?

Strung Out

Aaaah! Strings and things…
From when he was so small he didn't know how to pull his claws in to.
.. Big bad boy roaming the neighborhood and terrorizing birds and real snakes,
he loved chasing the ends of stringy things around the house.
One of his favorite games was when I pulled one end of a string slowly out from under the rug where the string was hidden. He would follow the movement avidly, and pounce on the string (destroying our rugs in the process, but who cares?) or dive under the rug to look for the string!
Recently he got under the rug in search of a string toy, and just sat there under the rug for half an hour.

Boxes & Baskets

He loved finding really small boxes, baskets and cubbyholes to curl up in. It was amazing how small he could make himself get.
and the first time we turned our back on an open suitcase, he would make a neat little space for himself among the clothes and curl up there ! He particularly liked our India trip suitcases. I wish I could have taken him with me to meet my family in India.

Cat Nap

He was the cuddliest little cat in the world when he curled up on our cushions to sleep. And he had an affinity for all our newest sheets, and some of my new dupattas too.

all that love...

He was much loved not just by us and his brother, Klack, but also by many of our friends. As kittens, they were the center of attention of many a dinner party. Klick was never afraid of strangers, and anyone could pick him up and play with him.

He was less than three months old in this picture with Dave. Dave picked him up, and Klick settled down on his neck for the rest of the evening!
Klick always Stacey a lot, and rubbed noses with her everytime she came home
Thank you bruce, france, anil, nadine, thaddaeus, sydney and suja for taking care of Klick when we were away.

Conquering the Great Outdoors

Klick was a fearless little cat, and he really liked high places. He loved this tree in front of our house, and would jump around on it from branch to a branch like a monkey. He liked to run from the main branches to smaller and smaller ones, until he was standing on a branch as wide as his one paw. This was NOT fun to watch for us, standing on the ground.
He also liked to climb the tree in our front yard, in one straight vertical run up the trunk, move on to a thin
ner branch and jump onto our roof. He had his route all worked out, and ground to roof usually took 2 seconds. He loved chasing squirrels up and down that roof, and then peering at us over the edge, as we stood on our front porch.
Our Mazda never looked so good as when he was on its roof grooming himself, or just chilling .

Loved and Happy

And he made me very happy. He brought a great deal of joy and contentment into my life these three years. I loved him very, very much, and I think he loved me back too.

Kli(c)k - April 2003-May 2006

He left the house on Tuesday May 2, 2006 early in the morning, and did not come back home. We found him the next morning beside the main road behind our house. He had been hit by a car. We believe he died instantly, and we hope he died painlessly. He looked like he was sleeping, and if you knew him, that’s really what he used to look like when he was sleeping. It was hard to let his body go, but we know that the real Klick we loved was the fearless kitten taking on dogs 10 times his size and raising a ruckus on our roof. He had a happy and full life. We miss him.
